Out of Africa at Decoration+Design

27 May 2010

The unique craft and artisanship of Africa will be a highlight of the forthcoming Decoration + Design trade fair, in the form of Missy Bailleu's range of artefacts from the continent.

Brand representative Claire Cormack said the Missy Bailleu range promised to add something fresh to the Australian market.

"The products that Missy brings to Australia are hand-picked, each item is unique, has been hand-made, and carries a cultural history transformed into a unique piece of art."

"Missy has been travelling through Africa for the last eight years, and through her travels, she identified a niche opportunity of retailing unique and antique African artefacts to Melbourne and the surrounding areas."

"Although the first couple of years were more of a trial exercise, the business is starting to gain momentum and has now opened to the wholesale market, through which Missy now supplies most capital cities in Australia. Now her primary focus is in the wholesale sector, where she continues to grow the Australian market."

Showing at D+D would be a range of products predominantly from West Africa, designed to suit the contemporary feel of Australian architecture and interiors. These included Haussa veils, Bamileke feather hats, African game skins and decorative pieces, as well as practical items such as Malawi chairs, Bamileke stools and wooden carved bowls

Missy Bailleu's aim in showing at D+D was to increase and develop relationships with decorators, retail shops and architects, Cormack added.

Missy Bailleu will showcase its wares at Decoration + Design, co-located with Furnitex from 15-18 July at Melbourne Exhibition Centre.
