Ruby Star Traders: Unique delights from India

12 July 2010

Ruby Star TradingThe Kantha Empire armchairs and sofas feature Silver Anatole wooden frames and exquisite upholstery: vintage cotton saris that have been hand-stitched by Indian craftswomen to create larger pieces called “gudris” – each unique and much sought-after by connoisseurs of fine textiles.

They are among the latest offerings from Ruby Star Traders, the New South Wales-based company that has long delighted lovers of traditional Indian textiles, furniture and homewares.

Since she founded the company in 1996, owner Karin Gardiner has regularly travelled to India to source her wares at craft workshops where time-honoured techniques remain alive and thriving - not least thanks to Ruby Star.

Joining the Kantha Empire range at Decoration + Design will be other exotic enticements including armchairs, ottomans and cushions in a bold linen Ikat print, a fresh pink and orange hibiscus cotton print used for armchair, quilts and cushions, and a range of chairs, sofas and ottomans upholstered in vintage saris.
